O.k. You’ve found your new hobby: carp fishing. So you’ve gone out and got the best, or most appropriate carp fishing tackle for your budget and location.
You’ve spent the time to get all the appropriate local licenses and permits.
You’ve read tons of stuff on the internet about carp angling.
You’ve outfitted yourself with all the greatest attire and maybe even some of the latest gadgets for the job.
But are you missing out on the most important detail? You’ve gotten all the equipment and various articles YOU want, but now you have to think about what the carp want.
Seriously.
You can have the most attractive angling gear in the world, but unless you know how to tempt those fish, you won’t catch a one of them!
It makes perfect sense if you think about it for a moment.
So, what DO they want?
Food. So give it to them!
If you’re making your own, you no doubt already know how to make a basic boilie.
But did you know that carp, despite being the vacuums they are, can actually be quite finicky eaters?
It’s true. Some like sweeter foods, and some like more savory. Some respond better to smelly, and some like milder baits. Some even like it hot and spicy! Who knew!
To be honest, even the area where the carp live might influence the entire population of fish, or the same group of fish might like different flavors of bait among them.
What’s the best way to know?
Make several kinds of boilies and bring them with you. If you’re not having luck with a savory kind, switch to a sweet kind. If that doesn’t work, try a spicy kind.
If none of them work, well, maybe it’s just not your day.
Experiment with it over several fishing trips, and you’ll be sure to find what they want. Then give it to them time and again, and you’ll always have tight lines!
Until next time
Go out and enjoy!
