What’s the most widely-used PHP/MySQL based forum software for medium size websites?

October 26, 2009 - 3:26 pm 1 Comment

I want to power up an online forum which has the following feature. These features are observed in almost every popular forums ranging from small to mag size. These features are:

1)A front page which contains links of hot topics, click on any of which will bring the visitors to that article which is eventually located in one the groups in forum.
2)A full-fledged forum operating behind the front page.
3)A mechanism to navigate through different subgroups of the forum
4)Sticky function to highlight hot topics
5)Personal messages.
6)Advertisements
7)Moderator

I found almost every popular forums has these feature. However, after I review all the CMS systems at http://www.opensourcecms.com/ , I was surprised that I cannot find any of these software can provide feature 1) which is mentioned above.

Please let me know what the hell the software are running on those popular forums. eg. http://bbs.shanghai.sh.cn/

Please let me know the best Open source CMS that suits my need.

I personally use
http://www.vbulletin.com

And you can find CMS front ends for this forum all over, one being http://www.phpportals.com

Best CMS eCommerce ASP CART Generator?

October 22, 2009 - 4:41 pm 2 Comments

hi everybody,
what"s the best and easiest cms ecommerce windows software out there?
i’m not asking for like code editors or stuff like that since i’m i dont know how to program with asp or c++ or vb…
i want to know know what is the most sophisticated click by click edit because i want to start a ecommerce asp site.
thx everybody!
best regards,
mike

In all honesty, unless you’re willing to pay for support then I wouldn’t go for .ASP as there aren’t many open source products available

I personally use Joomla with Virtuemart extention as it is simple to edit, upload products and install. You will need php and MySQL running on your server.

Hope that helps

Does anyone doing Forex trading use a mobile device, and does it works?

October 12, 2009 - 2:44 pm 5 Comments

At my new work, due to firewall limitations, I cannot install the VT Trader, a software from CMS Forex. Therefore I need to buy a device, Im thinking Blackberry or a Windows Mobile and then look for a new broker dealer to start trading. Anyone knows about Mobile Forex Trading?

Yes, the last answer was highly intelligent and relevant wasn’t it. You can do lots of wonderful things with a mobile and the Internet. 2 points.

Anyway, where were we. Ah yes, Forex Trading via Mobile – clearly if you’re doing this professionally then the main issue is related to data lag, particularly if your device isn’t 3G. When fractions of a second can count (depending on your strategy / automation) then mobile is high risk.

You should identify a forex platform which provides a decent PC web environment primarily – if that’s good and timely, then the mobile service hinged off it is likely to be good too.

What software or tool do you use to develop and mantain your web page?

Flash?

Dreamweaver?

A CMS like joomla?

any other?

For the CMS, Drupal

For tweaking the themes, stylesheets, etc, an older version of Dreamweaver (MX 2004) and sometimes NVU.

For the hard-core coding, ActiveState Komodo

For image editing, The Gimp.

How can I search Multiple Forums at once?

October 6, 2009 - 7:52 pm 1 Comment

With so many forums out there, and all running different CMS software (phpBB, vBulletin, vBadvanced, Simple Machines Forum, MKPortal, IP.Board, FluxBB, etc, etc)..

What would be involved to make a search engine / script that searches multiple forums and pools the results (assuming I first login manually to each forum)?

if they have the same database
or you can edit the php code to search in multiple database tables

I am trying to make a online dating website, what would be the best cms?

October 2, 2009 - 8:56 pm 1 Comment

I have hosting through bluehost.com and I started out with joomla but I can’t seem to find some good groupware/profile software extensions (i’ve tried community builder but I wasnt satisfied with it) So what would be the best CMS to use to make this kind of site. If you think joomla is the best could you reccomend an extension or groupware that is really good. Thanks for the answers.

I, too, am in the process of deciding on a CMS, although I am not as courageous as you :) .

The more I read and experiment, the more I am led to believe that Drupal has the maturity and flexibility for a lot of sites — I suspect it will fit yours well. I have heard that

http://drupalmodules.com/

is a good place to find quality modules for Drupal.

You may want to take a look at an article on Adobe Edge that reviews several top CMS solutions:

Packt publishing awards quality CMS solutions, and you might find them helpful:

Hope this is helpful!
