Content management system. Can anyone recommend any CMS software?

I’m looking for something which is easy to use. And has a function to add a membership function to my website. I’m using windows. I was looking at joomla, but I think that’s for linux. obviously I’ll be happy with any suggestions, but if anyone could find a free CMS, that would be amazing Thanks for any help

I have a domain/site hosted and need a template/content management software that allows users to create accounts & post videos. Of course they’d be uploading in all kinds of formats, so I need the software to automatically convert it and post it. Very similar to YouTube but for a smaller, niche audience. Thanks!

How much should I charge to train my former company’s employees on the application I built?

I built a custom content management application for my last company to manage their website and help file. I trained my replacement before I left, but he turned out to be worthless, and left. Now no one at the company knows how the thing works, and then want me to come train them as an independent contractor.

I’m willing to do it, and could use the extra cash, but I’m not sure how much to charge. Any ideas?

I was thinking that I should charge at least $125/hour, plus the travel expenses. That was the rate that my former employer charged their clients for training on our software. And after all, I have no competition, right?

Does this seem high? low? Anyone have any experience with this kind of situation?
1. I liked working there, but I got hired by Yahoo, which is of course much better.
2. It’ll probably be 6-8 hours of training, plus 4 hours of setup, so 10-12 hours of work total. They’ll pay for any followups separately, but I don’t expect any.
3. Travel expenses will be $0.35/mile (they’re in San Diego, I’m in LA), and a standard rate for food and lodging. (If they select 8 hours of training, it’ll be over 2 days, so one night at a hotel.)

The laptops will be used mainly for internet, email, word processing and other work related activities (back end website/content management software) and preparing marketing material, flyers, posters, mail shots etc.

The top end DV9880 is £300 more than the FE562EA – but has a more powerful processor (0.4ghz faster, with more cache), extra 256mb graphics card and BlueRay – In the same manner the DV5-1015 is £100 less and the processor is only 0.24ghz less? Will I really notice the difference between the specification of these (as in the processor speed and graphics) for what I require the laptop for and is it worth paying extra for the specification?

I am confused as to which is the best one to go for and will be sufficient for my needs? Will the FE562EA do the job and also save me £200-300?

I am not fussed about the screen size, as I will be adding a TFT when used at the desk.

Not sure if the extra GB of RAM is of any use though – Most applications, including 32 bit Vista – cannot make use of more that 3GB of RAM in any case?

I say either the first or last one are best. first one has fastest processor but last has newer processor and an extra gig of ram for memory hungry vista

Depends what you need from your site. I think you mean Content Management System which is a set of functionality all ready written for you with the option of adding customized modules to extend functionality and normally the ability to change the "theme" of the site to make it look different.

Joomla!, Drupal, or something else?

I’m playing around with some content management software. I can’t tell you how much simpler it makes my life. I’ve tried both Joomla and Drupal and like both, but wanted some other opinions on which I should choose, and if there were some other good solutions available that I didn’t know about.

I’ve used Joomla extensively on many sites and have found it to the best, most flexible open-source content management system around. It is very well supported and there are a ton of add-ons and extensions to meet most needs.

The key to determining which CMS is right for you to plan your site and determine everything that you are going to need to get your site up and running. After that, search for any add-ons that you’ll need to accomplish your goal.

Once you’ve compiled those things, you’ll be able to see which one will best meet your needs. Install them both to your site and see which work runs best, and is more intuitive to your navigation style.

In the end, however, I strongly recommend Joomla, as I do for my clients.
