What different types of Content Management Systems are there?

I have a requirement for a J2EE developer with CMS…what different types of cms could the client be looking for?
Perhaps less than 100. It depends on what level your potential client is at. Are they fortune 500. Private medium sized. Fortune 100 Global.
Here is a list of consulting companies and cms they offer/support/sell under the search j2ee.
http://www.opencms.org/opencms/en/support/solution_providers/index.html but there are atleast 6 big ones that I know of that are not on this list.
Knowing more info about your clients internal situation might prove to be helpful. They may even have a propritary system. Some companies use j2ee and other web technologies to access sql server and web enable internal systems.

I do agree with above answer of "John C", it depends on requirements if CMS does not have any special requirements then you can use free open source CMS just customize them they are very powerful one of them is Joomla but it is in PHP.
