Buying A LCD or Plasma High Def TV

April 16, 2010 - 8:41 am No Comments

It is hard to tell why one should buy a flat screen, a high definition capable television, a 17 inch screen or a 56 inch screen. In addition, there are many models to choose from. Some models cost just under $ 1000 dollars while some will set you back as much as three months worth of a modest mortgage. Making a decision will depend mainly on the use for the television and the budget of the buyer.Chances are you will have to decide between a plasma or LCD screen. A plasma screen is ideal for saving space as plasma televisions are flat. In addition, plasma screens give extra features as in they support high definitions media. But now all the plasma televisions out there will support this. The cheaper brands will skimp on this so do your home work well. The higher the number of pixels it has the better it will display HDTV content. Plasma screens also perform well even in poor lighting.

On the other hand, liquid crystal display (LCD) television screens do not perform at the same level as plasma screens .In poor lighting, LCD screens do not contrast black colors well. LCD screens needs very good bright light to perform well while plasma screens do not need this requirement. They also take up little space just like plasma screen being thin and sleek. LCD screens are good for viewing computer data and for video gaming so it can double up as your computer screen as well as gaming screen. An LCD will be ideal if there will be need to use for presentations and the like. LCD screens are not affected by altitude air pressure changes so this makes them good choices for use in airplanes. Plasma screens emit a humming sound at high altitudes.

What else should look at while shopping for a television? While choosing a screen size you have to consider the distance between the television and the sitting place frequently used. Keeping in mind that the larger the screen the more you will have to pay. Also consider analog or digital, most broadcasters are moving to digital productions.

There are other luxury features that you may consider going for while choosing your set. A picture in picture feature (PIP) is a feature that helps you watch two programs at the same time. The two programs could be television or video. If you are a sports fun then this is the feature to go for as your feature extra after choosing your screen and other features. It is good also if you hate commercials and would like to escape to something else while it running.

Is plasma better than LCD?

April 15, 2010 - 11:14 am No Comments

I think that plasma definitely used to be better than LCD. I mean the picture colours were a lot better on a plasma, and the motion response time of an LCD compared to a plasma is still astronomical, I don’t think an LCD screen will ever compete with them on that. Yet plasma TVs are now dying off because the humble LCD TV has now started to evolve and the picture quality is not about the same, but LCD TVs don’t suffer with screen burn. So get yourself a little 32 inch LCD TV for your bedroom and it doesn’t matter if you fall asleep watching it!

Good composition, good lighting, an interesting subject, and the right person behind the shutter can capture some pretty amazing images. In the right situation, a $100 simple point and shoot camera can take just as good a picture as any $2000 state of the art digital SLR full frame camera. What size TV should I get?

April 8, 2010 - 1:15 pm No Comments

TVs are tricky to buy, they are loaded with technology nowadays that they give fancy names and try to tempt you in with, plus the sizes are getting bigger and bigger until soon you are going to have to keep moving your head to see what is happening at each end of the screen! For me then you can’t go wrong with a 32 inch LCD TV which is a great size for most rooms. If you want one for the living room then you could go to a 42 inch one, but I don’t think you really need more than that, and plasma TVs are starting to die off now, so I would definitely stick with an LCD TV.
