Before seeking acid reflux treatment it’s helpful to know what is acid reflux disease?

If you are suffering from heartburn for two or more than two days in a week in spite of medicines and diet changes then you must have acid reflux disease.
Acid reflux disease is also called as GERD. GERD is short for gastroesophageal reflux disease (gas-tro-eh-sof-uh-JEE-ul RE-fluks disease).

How does it happen?

Acid reflux disease happens when a valve does not close properly. Esophagus is the valve to connect mouth to stomach. lower esophageal sphincter is the valve which opens to food and liquids in the stomach. This valve closes to have acid and food in the stomach. Sometimes this vole does not close properly. This leads to entry of stomach acid to the esophagus again and again. The stomach is happy to get acid than the esophagus. Over and over exposure of stomach acid may lead to damage of esophagus. This condition leads to heartburn to many people. If the heartburn is more than two days even after diet changes then you are suffering from Acid reflux disease or GERD.
